Issue#269183: Ubuntu - [SOLVED] Install the b43 driver with no internet

  • Please Verify installing the b43 driver is correct per this guide..
The pci-id [14e4:XXXX] determines what driver performs best with the wireless card.

To load the b43 driver with no internet access, first drag and drop the attached file [see attached below] to the physical Desktop. Then at the icon on the Desktop
    >right click then choose > Extract Here.

Next open a terminal...ctrl/alt/t..then please copy and paste one line at a time.
ignore any error or file not found on the first two commands.

This removes the bcmwl-kernel-source driver if it was installed by error or default.

    sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
    sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf

Then to install the b43 driver, please copy and paste..

    sudo mkdir /lib/firmware/b43
    sudo cp Desktop/b43/* /lib/firmware/b43
    sudo modprobe b43

  • Issue#126733: [ubuntu] Ubuntu - Windows 10 Dual Boot Install Issue

Hey guys, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything that was particularly specific to my issue. I am trying to install Ubuntu on the save drive as Windows 10, but once I get to the "download updates while installing" screen before actually installing, then hit continue I am getting this error: "Force UEFI Installation? This machines firmware has started this installer in UEFI mode but it looks like there maybe existing operating systems already installed using BIOS compatibility mode. If you continue to install Debian in UEFI mode, it might be difficult to reboot into any BIOS-mode operating system." I poked around in my BIOS and tried disabling fast boot, disabling Compatibility (CSM) and I'm still managing to get the same error. When I look in my boot options there is only one option for the USB drive and it is UEFI. My motherboard is a ASUS ROG Maximus VII Hero, do you guys have any suggestions? EDIT: I managed to get Ubuntu to install by disabling Se

  • Issue#129301: Ubuntu - Mount issue when trying to make Windows7 install usb

Hello, I have to reinstall Windows, which obviously is the easy part, because I am stuck on creating a bootable usb installer. Until today using 'dd' always worked for me. Code: dd if=<iso> of=<disk> oflag=direct bs=1048576 Today, however it didn't work, the PC was stuck on blinking _ after BIOS and no booting at all, no errors as well. So I figured to try something else and WinUSB was the first thing to come out of google. So installed it I did and used it as: Code: sudo winusb --format <iso> /dev/sdc And it spits: Code: Formating device... Mounting... mount: you must specify the filesystem type Error occured ! • Issue#155776: [ubuntu] Having an issue with a USB install on a new Windows computer

I recently purchased a new HP laptop, running Windows 10. I have a USB drive of Ubuntu 15.10 64 bit. I am having some issues with this though. I set the computer to boot from USB first. Once it gets to the GRUB menu, if I tell it to try without installing, it will often go to a blank screen and just sit there. If I hit C first, then ESC, then try without installing, it seems to work. I am able to use the computer from that point, on the live USB. But once I tell it to install Ubuntu (I intend to dual boot), I proceed to the window with the "download updates, third party software" and hit continue, I then get a blank screen. I'm a bit baffled as to why it is doing this. The USB drive was a good working unit before I tried it in this computer. I have since used Pendrivelinux a few times to verify the install, and I ran an MD5 comparison to check the ISO file. What is the next step to resolve this? Computer is a new HP Pavilion 17 touchscreen.

  • Issue#193212: Ubuntu - [SOLVED] New install M-3N78-EN mother board - No audio on HDMI Mythbuntu 12.04

I spent quite a while researching the solution to this problem. I finally got it solved so I thought I might be able to save others some time by posting the solution that worked for me. First of all I started with Mythbuntu 14.04 and had the same audio problem plus some other major issues on my setup. There was a stability issue that caused the system to crash on playback, so having heard that others found 12.04 to be stable, I decided to downgrade with a fresh install of 12.04. This install seemed to work except for the audio. Here are the steps that I found necessary to get the problem resolved. I gathered this information through many different posts, each dealing with a particular aspect of the problems I encountered. On installation I selected to use the nVidia driver for the board. The installed driver was version 304. However I found that although installed, this driver is not set up. You can see this by going to the control centre, clicking the graphics driver icon and notic

  • Issue#231114: [ubuntu] same old issue, connecting to WiFi but no internet

Hey guyz, this is my first experience with ubuntu after many years of using opensuse. In the first impression, my WiFi connects but with no Internet access. I've searched and see many others have the same issue, Most of the time setting an DNS or ignoring IPv6 and some changes there, or adding some config files were the resolutions, however, none of them worked for me. Any help would be appreciated ;) PS1:I'm using Ubuntu 15.10 on Acer 5741 (core i5, 4G Ram, Wifi: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe [14e4:1692] ) PS2:I also did a test with Mint and Elementary OS, which both are based on Ubuntu, and they didn't have any problem with WiFi. • Issue#239452: Ubuntu 14.04 Internet Connection issue

I am brand new to Ubuntu and always wanted a home server and to run Linux. So I decided to follow the video in the link below to setup the server. The two settings I couldn't find that he changed in the video were at: 14:15 - This was for removing the ; in front of name resolve order (it was not present in the configuration file). Also 14:36 Removing the # in front of security was not present. Everything went fine until after I edited the Samba Configuration file. After that I was no longer able to access the internet through the server to get updates and so on. I restarted the network connection after I changed the configuration file and tested it to be sure it worked. I figure the problem is either a router setting or a samba setting. I'm not sure which one. I have access to the server via the network. I can access the files I setup to be shared on the network through another PC. I also have full access to the shared folders on the serv

  • Issue#271513: Ubuntu 14.04 server, BootitBM boot manager and VMWorkstation install issue

Greetings all - ran into an issue attempting to install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server (64) on VMWorkstation 10 after installing Terabyte Unlimited's boot manager BootitBM. Finally found one solution that I thought I would also post here in the hopes it helps someone else who runs into this issue. Their KB article #279 "Linux Installation Notes: Ubuntu" covers what I was trying to do basically (although they start with the GUI version). In the KB article, they indicate that at a minimum, you need 2 partitions for the Linux install - one for the root file system (Ext4) and one for swap. I attempted to follow the instructions and the install went well up until it came to installing GRUB at which point the installer indicated it wanted to put it in the MBR (which would have overwritten my existing boot manager) - I selected "No" and then got the screen to choose where to install it. I tried /dev/sda2 (which is where the root file system was) and the install failed. Tried a nu
