Issue#304818: OpenFOAM 2.4.x and OpenFOAM 3.0.x on openSUSE Leap 42.1

  • I'm having an issue with the OpenFOAM environmental variables when calling ParaView. I installed both OF 2.4.x and OF 3.0.x in my /opt/OpenFOAM directory, as well as the respective third party software for each version. I also set aliases for each OF version in my ~/.bashrc

Running either version of ParaView without calling the alias works fine, using either of the two lines:

    [email protected]:~> /opt/OpenFOAM/ThirdParty-2.4.x/build/linux64Gcc/ParaView-4.1.0/bin/paraview

    [email protected]:~> /opt/OpenFOAM/ThirdParty-3.0.x/build/linux64Gcc/ParaView-4.4.0/bin/paraview

If I set an alias (e.g. of24x, of30x), I get the following libGL errors:

    [email protected]:~> of30x
    [email protected]:~> /opt/OpenFOAM/ThirdParty-3.0.x/build/linux64Gcc/ParaView-4.4.0/bin/paraview

Both versions of OpenFOAM were installed using the openSUSE instructions on the wiki. Can someone give me an idea of what's going on?

  • Issue#757397: Question: OpenFOAM 3.2 issue installing blockMeshDG

    Hello, First let me state that I'm new to OpenFOAM world, and I'm training myself with small cases. The following question arose from a case of double wall channel flow using foam-extend-3.2. I have been trying to use the Multigrade capabilities of blockMesh with the following blockMeshDict: " convertToMeters 1; vertices ( (0 0 0) (2 0 0) (2 1 0) (0 1 0) (0 0 0.01) (2 0 0.01) (2 1 0.01) (0 1 0.01) ); blocks ( hex (0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7) (100 50 1) simpleGrading ( 1 ((0.25 0.4 4) (0.5 0.2 1) (0.25 0.4 0.25)) 1 ) ); ); edges ( ); boundary ( fixedWall { type wall; faces ( (0 1 5 4) (3 2 6 7) ); } inlet { type patch; faces ( (0 3 7 4) ); } outlet { type patch; faces ( (1 5 6 2) ); } frontAndBack { type empty; faces ( (0 3 2 1) (4 5 6 7) ); } ); mergePatchPairs ( ); " However, this does not work with the typical "blockMesh" command, which has an issue with the extra brackets in "block" section of the code&qu

  • Issue#854955: Coding issue / OpenFOAM

Hi, I'm trying to compile a solver. I have several functions that those functions want to access some mesh data, and I would like to keep those functions in separate C files, and having access in main C file via header files. Please see "testme.C" below! I get errors, cuase I can't access to 'vector', 'label', 'mesh', and etc. How can I fix that? Example (I know the purpose of the function doesn't make sense ... but it's just an example!) Code: // testme.C file double TestMe(std::vector <double> & myvec) {         vector myPoint(1.0, 1.0, 1.0);         label myCell = mesh.findCell(myPoint);                 double u_here = U[myCell].component(0);                 return u_here; } Code: // testme.h file double TestMe(std::vector <double> & myvec); Code: // mySolver.C file ... int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {  ... &nb

  • Issue#9164: OpenFoam 3.0.x Moving Solid Body Through Mesh

Hi, I am currently running compressibleInterFoam where I have a jet of fluid flowing upward into a stagnant body of water. I would like to add a solid body with a pre-programmed trajectory into the body of water. The body can move at a constant velocity in a straight line. What is the best way to solve this problem? • Issue#14046: Linux - openSuse Leap installer gets stuck or doesn't load

I have been preparing to perform a major upgrade and HDD replacement at the same time. While waiting for the hardware to arrive, I have been downloading and burning all the iso's that I expect to need. I have downloaded the openSuse Leap X86-64 iso twice and the boot from dvd fails at the same place each time. -checksums ok, -media boots and verify media ok when done in a different machine -openSuse 13.2 i586 DVD gets to the partitioning part of the install at which point I bail out. When booting from the Leap x64 DVD there is a green progress bar that runs along the bottom of the screen. It gets stuck when that reaches 100%. I left it for 20 minutes last night just in case it was a bit slow. Does any one know which point in the start up this or is there any way to get some verbose messages up on the screen so that I can see what is happening? At this point I am suspecting that something in my machine does not like 64 bit even though the CPU (Pentium D 820) and chipset (intel

  • Issue#21703: OpenFOAM: Adding a transient pressure gradient to a solver

I am trying to add a pressure gradient, that changes with time, to a solver. I have a sinusoidal pressure gradient working, but I am having trouble ramping up the frequency. I'm new to OpenFOAM and C++, and it's pretty clear I am not calling functions properly, but I don't know how to resolve. As a test, I want to apply the sinusoidal gradient until time = 5, then have the gradient go to zero for the remainder of the simulation. If I can get this working, I should be able to set up the actual ramping I want. I'm mostly interested in calling the ceiling, floor, and minimum functions properly. And, I know the arguments for the minimum function are not of the same type, but don't know how to get them to match. • Issue#50696: Why do code crash when OpenFOAM is combined with VTK?

I am trying to combine VTK with OpenFOAM. Unfortunately, the simplest OpenFOAM example (icoFoam.C) with included the simplest VTK example (Arrow.cxx) crashes with "Floating point exception" in window rendering if OpenFOAM functions are called before VTK. I know, it is difficult for you to judge what happens in these functions, but maybe you have some hints what to search for, or maybe some of you are familiar with coupled OpenFOAM and VTK. P.S. VTK v.6.3.0 and OpenFOAM v.3.0 are used. Thank you very much in advance, Algis

  • Issue#69512: openfoam newbie need hardware info.

I am going to build a cfd system soon. Eventually I will be running simulations of high speed boats with aero and hydro with waves and such. I am wondering where to start with hardware. Would it be better to start with a desktop or server. I have thought about starting with a rackmount computer so I can expand easily later on.....or would it be better to just buy two desktops. I want to spend about 1k to get started. I'm not sure how intensive what i want to simulate is either. There are a couple videos online of what i want to be able to do: I am willing to start on my laptop doing a wing in ground effect or may just a hull going through smooth water but I will be investing in a computer soon. What is the best way to start??

Hello all, I am a new memeber of this forum. I interested in profiling OpenFOAM solvers with TAU profiler. First of all, i built tau from source. I checked a few tutorial examples and it all went well. Then, I built OpenFOAM with Intel icpc compiler from source. Again I checked it and the solvers worked correctly. Here comes the real deal: I changed the CC = icpc... command to in $HOME/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-3.0.0/wmake/rules/linux64ICC/c++ file. When I tried to compile the icoFoam solver, it did compiled and the executable created, but when i try to run it the terminal seems to be frozen (like he is in some infinite loop). Any ideas of how to fix it ? Thank You!

I figured out the at some point in ODESolver.C the function provides y, but y is alredy defined in "derivatives()", which makes no sense to me. Code:     scalarField& y = ode_.coeffs(); fo
