  • Issue#8271: Linux - Migration To SSD On DELL Inspiron 5520 Ubuntu 14.04.3 / Windows 10 Dual Boot

Hello, I want to migrate from a 1TB HDD on my Inspiron 5520 to a 1TB SSD. I normally use a Clonezilla distro, which has been optimized for Ubuntu and has USB 3.0 support. Can I just hang the new SSD on a SATAWIRE cable and use Clonezilla in the normal way, or is there something else I will need to do? My current Clonezilla distro is "clonezilla-live-2.4.2-10-amd64.iso." Thanks, Hannibal

  • Issue#549722: HP - Windows Boot Manager Error / Windows Recovery Manager Issue

Hello, I'm at a loss and afraid I've lost all my files.   Every time I restarted my computer I kept getting the Windows Boot Manager error message: Status: 0xc000000f Info: An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data. However, after googling and trying numerous methods to repair this, I now keep getting prompted with the Windows Recovery Manager.  I assumed that choosing the default factory restore option would prompt me with a back up option, but it didn't and proceeded to reformat.  I quickly shut my computer down. I don't know what to do next because now all I get is the Windows Recovery Manager option. Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Issue#621948: Dual Boot Windows 10 & Ubuntu Mate (or any flavor) on Dell Inspiron 5559

I bought a new DELL with with Windows 10 at Costco, and I want to dual boot with Ubuntu. Unfortunately, though I've tried several different settings in the UEFI BIOS, and tried putting the boot loader in different places-I've even tried EasyBCD. But I still can't get the process down right. After installing Ubuntu, I either get "no operating system found" or I'm back to Windows 10 without a Ubuntu option. I CAN boot Ubuntu from a flash drive using "shift & cntrl" when shutting down Windows 10, then choosing the "boot from a flash drive" option. For me, this is a last resort. I'd really like to be able to dual boot. I'd appreciate some guidance. Thanks! David

  • Issue#796967: Dell - Windows won't boot after memory upgrade Dell inspiron 14R

Ask Crucial support if you can't get an answer here. Crucial is good for helping with problems like this when you buy memory from them. A13 is the latest bios. IMO 4GB is plenty of ram for this 5 yr old model. Replace the 4GB and use it until you can buy a new computer.

  • Issue#994328: Dell - can not create recovery disk error on Inspiron 15 5000 with Windows 10

Tried to create the USB rescue disk on a 8500 but it fails. Tried it on my wife's Toshiba laptop and it worked fine. The difference I noticed is that on the Dell it pops up the Windows disk formatting window but on the Toshiba it just formats the disk and completes the task.

  • Issue#1142936: Need Help! Dell Inspiron Laptop Won't Boot After Windows 10 Install

My cousin brought over his Dell laptop last night, since I am the IT Guru. I agreed to take a look at it as a token of appreciation because he gave me a free BBQ when I moved into my new place in May (Valued at $109 at the store) I thought it was an easy fix because when we originally talked about it, he was saying that it wasn't activated after a Windows 10 install. Turns out the laptop won't boot past the splash screen. He gets the message "Media test failure, check cable". His laptop worked perfectly fine until it rebooted after installing Windows 10. I also looked at it briefly. I went into the BIOS and selected the HDD as the 1st boot device, same issue. I have seen this error sometimes happen because the HDD is loose in the laptop, however this dumb Dell laptop has the HDD under the keyboard and requires a lot of removal to get...

  • Issue#6199: Hp recovery disks not working - desktop PC will not boot windows 8 from recovery disks

Computer was running windows 10 for a while with no problems. Computer wouldn't boot - getting BSOD error 0xc0000225 "a required device isn't connected or can't be accessed". Contacted HP who advised us we needed recovery discs. We then purchased recovery discs for windows 8 from HP.Unfortunately discs wont work at all. Changed the boot order in the bios to put CD/DVD drive first - got BSOD error 0xc0000017 "unexpected error has occurred" Disabled secure configuration - still no success - got BSOD error 0xc0000017 "there isn't enough memory available to create a ramdisk device" Ran all the diagnostics tests from the startup menu - no problems. Took out all the RAM sticks and tried each one individually with no success. Can the motherboard be faulty even if all diagnostics tests pass? Please help.

  • Issue#19615: Windows 10 upgraded failure - Dell Inspiron N5050 - display driver not working

The short version of this post is a warning to be careful upgrade any Dell Inspiron N5050 laptops. The issue shortly after booting up.  The display goes blank shortly after the Dell and Win splash screen (still can hear the short Win10 music rift after the screen blanks out).  The very first boot up after updating to Win10 worked fine.  After that first boot...well.  Using an external monitor works and shows the laptop didn't just crash. Booting in safe mode and looking in device manager shows an error with the display driver.  A quick web search listed others upgrade attempts with the same problem, but no solution. I doubt there's many of these laptop around, but wanted to share.  Hopefully I'm not rehashing someone else's post or crying wolf when there happens to be a fix out there.

  • Issue#64959: Logitech - m555b Bluetooth pairing issue with Dell Latitude E4300 running Windows 10 64 bits

Hello, I've been using a m555b Bluetooth for more than 4 years with the same laptop: Win7, Win8, Win8.1 and now Win10 But I currently can't: after the full new installation from scratch, I'm unable to pair it. The Broadcomm "Dell 365 Bluetooth"  module works fine, I've successfully paired an iPhone 5S, a Microsoft Number Pad and an audioset. It properly detects the mouse (including brand and model), when I press the "connect" button under it. But I press the "pair" button on the Bluetooth setting panel on Windows 10, I obtain the warning box "it didn't work - please try again and check your mouse can still be detected" When I press the "close" button and make a new attempt: no further sucess. I remember having suffered such a similar issue with Win8 3 years ago. Please help me!

  • Issue#75320: Dell Inspiron: Add Boot Option using Insydeh20 setup utility

Hi, I have Dell Inspiron 7520 (i7 processor) laptop. When I tried to start my system it's showing the spinning icon & after few seconds, it shows me blue screen with the following error message: "Your PC ran into a problem and need to restart. we're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you". Once it shows the above message, the system restarts and then repeats the same process of showing the same error message & restart. This keeps happening in a loop. The software running in BIOS is Insydeh20 setup utility. I managed to get a copy of the Windows 8 on a USB drive. In order to boot from the USB, I got into the Bios (using F2) & tried to "Add boot option" as there were no other boot options present. When I tried to do that, it asked me to provide a name. I entered "USB". It then added it & allowed me to edit properties of this option. When I tried to edit the property, it asked for File system path. Because this is
